Roasted Broccoli Recipe

You hear it all the time: ‘Eat Your Greens!’. When it comes to greens, there are a menagerie of choices and you really can’t go wrong with whatever you choose, so today we’ll just focus on broccoli and how wonderfully delicious it can be. Whether you’re looking for a side dish for dinner or a big batch to food prep and keep in the fridge to use a the base to a salad or a quick snack, this roasted broccoli recipe is simple, tasty and sure to satisfy all!

Roasted Broccoli Recipe


1 bunch broccoli, cut into floretsbroc
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 garlic cloves or 1 tbsp minced garlic
Salt and pepper, to taste


  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. Coat the broccoli florets with the olive oil and garlic, adding salt and pepper to taste (optional)
  3. Place on a roasting pan and spread evenly.
  4. Roast, without stirring, until the edges are crispy; about 20 minutes.
  5. Take out of oven and enjoy!

Although you may have to travel and deal with the inconvenience that comes with the airport, there are many things that you can do to keep from having to indulge in the less than healthy food options that are available there. Below are just a few ways that you can stick to your diet and remain as healthy as possible throughout your trip.

Be sure to check the cleanliness of the water in the cities you will be traveling to.

The single most important aspect of nutrition is the cleanliness of the water that you are putting into your body. Your body is comprised of a majority of water and all of the nutrition that flows through your body is aided by water. Water also helps to clean your body of toxins, but only if it is clean itself.

You can check the quality of water on the state websites very easily including the amount of fluoridation that takes place within the state as well as the other toxins that have been found. You can then make an informed decision.

Bring food.   Airport-travel

Be careful about this as many airlines are now using government regulations to justify clamping down on people who want to bring food on board as well. Know the rules of your chosen airline before you go to the airport and pick an airline that lets you bring your own food if this is at all possible.

Eat your food in a healthy way.

It is natural to feel rushed inside of an airport; however, keep in mind that the way you eat your food may have an effect on the health of that meal as well as the actual food. Take your time, chew slowly and give yourself time to digest your food in a stress free environment. If at all possible, do it away from computers and TVs in the main lobbies; the high frequency waves that permeate these areas may actually inhibit your ability to digest food. This is what the investment in the airport clubs is actually good for.

Know how to avoid the worst foods.

In airports, there will be plenty of food that is usually only sold in the impulse line of the grocery store. Foods such as cinnamon rolls, candy bars and soft drinks will look incredibly good when you are just getting off of a stressful flight. However, you must discipline yourself to look a little bit harder for the more healthy foods that are sure to be in the airport somewhere. Ask the workers if they know – the best places might not be behind your gate. If you have enough time, take the Tram and make the move. Your body will certainly thank you in the long run.

Smart Alternatives to Energy Drinks

ABC News reported that 20,000 people ended up in the ER last year with energy drink related problems.  As a reformed Red Bull drinker, I highly recommend NEVER consuming energy drinks, no matter how sluggish you feel. Reach for one of these healthier forms of liquid energy instead.


  • Coconut Water: Loaded with potassium, magnesium, and calcium, coconut water helps boost energy levels and increase metabolism in the human body.
  • Coffee: Though coffee also has negative sides when over-consumed, studies have shown that a little caffeine before a workout (100 milligrams or so) can give you a boost. Aim for one cup of fresh brewed coffee 30 minutes before your workout.Some green tea in Nanzenji's lovely tea room.
  • Green Tea: High in antioxidants, daily consumption of green tea boosts endurance, helps burn body fat, and hydrates the body, despite the caffeine.
