5 ‘Health’ Foods That Really Aren’t

Every time you go to the grocery store, you’re bombarded with options. Some are healthy, some are harmful, and many foods are difficult for shoppers to determine which category they fall into.

These are the 5 common ‘healthy’ foods that actually sabotage your clean eating, healthy body efforts:Hungary-popcorn-933x700

Microwave Popcorn: Sodium, flavoring and all kinds of other chemicals make this anything but healthy. Plus, since the corn is GMO, you’ve got major added distress for your body.

Fat Free: Whether it’s salad dressing, yogurt, peanut butter or muffins, fat free simply means the fat (in many cases healthy fat that your body needs to thrive) has been removed and replaced with sugar, artificial sweeteners, preservative and/or some type of highly processed, chemical ‘binder’.

Gluten Free Products: Processed food is still processed food, even if it’s minus a certain ingredient. And much like fat free products, many gluten free products have replaced gluten with sugar, additives or some type of equally unhealthy food by-product. Choose whole, unprocessed food as much as possible to circumvent this.

Frozen ‘Diet’ Dinners: Many people opt for these when convenience, portion control and calorie counting are at play, but the sodium content and enormousgranola lack of nutrient value make these dinners an un-sound healthy eating choice. Swing by a fresh salad bar instead and load up with plenty of veggies, a small portion of clean, lean protein and use vinegar and olive oil for dressing.

Granola: Marketing hype is rampant here. Though many of the ingredients, such as oats or seeds, may be healthy when eaten alone and simply, the added sugars and processing or store-bought granola make this is high sugar calorie bomb. Try homemade granola instead.
